1. Tamko thanks everyone for the year 2023!

A warm thank you to Tamko member!
With your help:

  • …we have been able to make made students’ voices heard in monthly meetings of TAMK’s management, in dozens of different working groups, in parliamentary candidate’s meetings, in meetings of the City of Tampere and in discussions throughout Finland and Europe through SAMOK.  
  • …we have been able to organize various events such as Autumn trip, Wellbeing Week, SiipiBingo, Students’ Mental Health Day event, Tursajaiset, sitsit and monthly Hangouts.
  • …we have been able to offer our members, security guard course, various student benefits, free coffee every weekday and communication on student related issues.

Tamko’s actors of 2023 have worked to build the community spirit of TAMK students in addition to their own studies. The new actors will continue with the same work at the beginning of January!

We wish all our members a peaceful Christmas and hope to meet again next year!

2. Solu opening hours during Christmas

Christmas is arriving soon at Tamko’s office Solu and that means that Solu will be closed during Christmas holidays 22.12.-1.1. Please contact us office@tamko.fi if you have urgent matters during this time.

Our office is normally open from until this Thursday 21.12. So there is still time to pick up your student card stickers to get the discounts from the Christmas travels with train or for the last minute gift for a friend: buy overall patch!

3. Gateway to Working Life in January!

Are you looking for summer job? Or place for internship? What about company to make your thesis for? Come to Gateway to Working Life event in January!

Gateway to Working Life recruiting event is event where organizations come to TAMK to meet their future talents. The organizations are offering different kinds of work, internship and thesis opportunities for students plus a chance to communicate with them. Tamko and sub-associations are bringing a great amount of companies to TAMK’s main campus 23.-25.1. from different sectors. 

Gateway to Working Life event days:

23.1. Social services and health care, Business administration and hospitality management
24.1. Technology and ICT
25.1. Technology

Event hours are 10am – 2pm during all three days and the event is free.
There will be also free CV-photoshoot, CV-clinic and interesting seminars at the event, welcome!

4. TAMK persons of the year were announced

The graduation party of TAMK was held on last Friday 15.12.2023 and there we celebrated great recent graduates and the students of the year were announced and awarded. 

Tamko’s Board made the selection of the staff member and the teacher based on the name suggestions and additional information received from the students. The recipient of the Student of the Year award was decided by TAMK’s student counselors on the basis of written submissions. The prizes were given by TAMK’s support foundation.

5. New due date to student healthcare fee

Starting 1 January 2024, the due dates for the healthcare fee for higher education students will change. Also, degree students from other EU or EEA countries or from Switzerland, Great Britain or Northern Ireland will continue to be exempt from paying the fee.

Starting from the beginning of 2024:

  • the new due date for the spring term will be 15.3. It applies to students who register as attending by 31.1.
  •  The new due date for the autumn term will be 15.11., applicable to students who register as attending by 30.9.

Halthcare fee and any late fees will remain the same in 2024 as in 2023, meaning that the student healthcare fee is 36.80 euros per term and the late fee 5 euros.

6. Changes to social security benefits

The Government Programme A strong and committed Finland was published on 20 June 2023. The Programme includes many changes to the social security benefits. 

Housing allowance
Parliament has approved cuts to the general housing allowance, which will reduce the rates of the allowance in 2024. General housing allowance will also no longer be available for owner-occupied housing in year 2025.

Student loans and study grant provider supplement
The amount of the government guarantee for student loans will be increased and the number of disbursements of student loan funds will be changed. The provider supplement to the study grant will also be increased.

7. SportUni Christmas time opening hours

There are exceptions in the opening hours of the Sport Centres around Christmas and New Year.

8. Kamula’s evening for newcomers –  Christmas edition

Hi student!
We have planned a nice Chistmas-vibes evening at Kamula just for you!

Welcome to Kamula – evening for newcomers

Wednesday 20.12.23 at 4 pm to 7 pm
At Kamula (address: Mustanlahdenkatu 18, Tampere)
Free of charge
No pre-registration required


Activities for the evening

  • Speed friending at 4.30 pm
  • Christmas baking at 6 pm
  • Bracelet making station open all evening
  • Snacks available all evening

At the door of Kamula, you will be welcomed by Kamula’s employees Fiia & Siina. You will be shown around the Kamula facilities and what you can do at Kamula. There are also volunteers at Kamula who spend time with visitors. You will not be alone at Kamula.
