4. Tamko’s Vice-Chair Helena elected as SAMOK’s Chair

Tamko took part in national student advocacy work at the General Assembly of SAMOK (National Union of Students in Finnish Universities of Applied Sciences) on 30.-31.10.2025.

SAMOK represents all UAS students in Finland in nationwide decision-making. They do this by meeting Members of Parliament and ministers, talking with representatives of working life, and bringing students’ perspectives to events and panel discussions.

At the General Assembly, there were many discussions about issues important to students, such as student financial security and increasing polarization. A new political policy paper was also approved. SAMOK will use this document as the basis for all its national advocacy work for students. Tamko is the largest Students Union in Finland, which means it has the most votes and therefore significant influence at the General Assembly.

The General Assembly also elected SAMOK’s Board for next year. Tamko’s current Vice Chair, Helena Maijanen, was chosen as the new Chair. Congratulations to Helena! Tampere and TAMK students are making their mark on national student politics!
