1. Opinion piece: No income for students during the summer months?

Aamulehti published the opinion piece ”No income for students during the summer months?” written by the Chairs of the Boards of Tamko and TREY on 2 April. In the opinion piece, Saara and Tami write about students’ dark future prospects regarding livelihood in the summer, housing and employment.

“One would think that students’ right to housing would be considered a fundamental right, not just some seasonal benefit. If we want to ensure lively student cities, let alone healthy students, the support system must change so that no one needs to worry if there is still a home to return to after the summer.”, the chairs summarize in their opinion piece.

1. Benefits during the summer

Summer might be a difficult time in a student’s life. The benefits you might be entitled to depend on your resident permit and country of origin. You can read more from Kela’s website here. In general students are entitled to student benefits as long as they are acquiring study credits. Please note that student benefits aren’t being paid during the months this isn’t the case, and that summertime student benefits must be applied separately. Go to Kela’s website for more information and for the application.

3. Answer the survey about TAMK campus facilities

What would the campus look like in the future? Where do you like to study the most on campus?

Influence TAMK’s learning environments and facilities by answering the facilities programme survey done by TAMK and Tamko. The aim of the survey is to focus on future facilities and campus development and to compile a framework for the facilities programme.

The preparation of the campus development facility program has been launched at TAMK in January 2026. The aim is to create a common, long-term direction for the development of campus facilities that supports the priorities of TAMK’s strategy, and that supports learning, working, and research and development activities in the best possible way also in the coming years.

4. Tamko’s anti-harassment campaign

We have launched an anti-harassment campaign at Tamko’s social media channels that runs throughout April. The purpose of the campaign is to remind everyone that harassment in any form does not belong in student life and is not in line with the values of Tamko or TAMK. Harassment is a form of discrimination and may also meet the criteria of other criminal offenses. Harassment can be verbal or physical, or take the form of gestures or messages that create an intimidating, degrading, or offensive atmosphere.

This Wednesday 22.4. you have opportunity to ask about harassment in Q&A session on Tamko’s Instagram account.

Harassment and inappropriate behavior do not belong in studies or student life. You do not have to face it alone. Everyone has the right to safe, harassment-free studies – and you can always reach out if this is not the case.

9. Take the School to Belong survey

TAMK is part of the School to Belong programme, which aims to reduce loneliness in higher education. We are now collecting students’ experiences of loneliness and exclusion, every response matters.

The survey is anonymous, voluntary, and takes about 10–15 minutes to complete. The results will be used to help reduce loneliness and may also be used for research purposes.
Please respond by 5 June: Answer the survey

Thank you in advance! Together we can defeat loneliness.

10. Do you move very little or not at all? Tell why and win movie tickets.

This survey is intended for you if you currently engage in little or no physical activity. We are especially interested in hearing from those for whom physical activity is not a regular part of daily life or for whom the threshold to start being active feels high.

Our aim is to understand what factors make physical activity and the use of SportUni’s services difficult or prevent it altogether. These may include lack of time, tiredness, cost, uncertainty about one’s fitness level, unfamiliar facilities, or simply that exercise does not feel like the right thing at the moment — all responses are equally important. The survey is open until May 6.

Responding to the survey is anonymous and does not require any prior experience with SportUni’s services. The responses will be used to develop physical activity services to be more accessible and lower-threshold in TUNI community.

If you wish, you may leave your contact details via a separate form at the end of the survey to take part in a prize draw and register your interest in a voluntary interview. The interview is an approximately 30-minute discussion conducted either in person or via Teams, focusing on the reasons behind low physical activity and how SportUni’s services could be made more beginner-friendly and approachable.

Four (4) movie tickets will be raffled among all survey respondents. In addition, four (4) movie tickets and two packages including sports consultation and a sports fee will be raffled among respondents who volunteer for an interview.
