Welcome to tamko new student!

Tamko congratulates all new students who got a study place at TAMK! We also warmly welcome you to become part of Finland’s largest and oldest Students’ Union!

Tamko’s mission is to represent all TAMK students in decision-making, promote students’ interests, and improve everyday student life at TAMK and in Tampere. We also work to promote student wellbeing and create a community spirit.

In practise this is reflected through activities such as student representatives in working groups, various surveys where students can share their opinions, providing feedback, meetings with the Excecutive team of TAMK, engaging and activating students and organizing events.

Why become a member?

As a Tamko member, you receive both a physical and a mobile student card along with all the student benefits. At the same time, you support a non-profit organization run by students for students. The more members Tamko has, the stronger our collective voice becomes and the more influence we have in decision-making.

Tamko’s slogan, “From Students to Students,” is absolutely true. All of Tamko’s activities and decision-making processes even at the highest level are guided by ordinary students. Tamko’s five employees support students and provide their expertise, but all decisions are ultimately made by students themselves. This means that Tamko’s activities are genuinely carried out by students, for students.

Tamko is not allowed to generate profit from its operations, which means that all membership fees are reinvested back into student services and activities. Membership fees are used for example to organize events, maintain Solu (the student living room), service and replace loanable equipment, and support clubs and student associations through grants and sponsorships.

As a member, you receive:

  • An official nationwide Finnish student card, which also serves as a library card and campus access card
  • Thousands of student discounts through the Slice.fi mobile student card, both locally and nationwide
    • An additional 0.10€ discount on student lunches at the Main Campus on top of the regular student-priced meal
    • 10% off all regular-priced café products at CampusCafe on the Main Campus
    • A discount on Solu sauna rentals
  • The opportunity to borrow sports equipment and board games from our office free of charge
  • The opportunity to participate in Tamko’s activities and decision-making
  • Voting right in Council elections.
  • Support and guidance in various student life situations
  • Curated and up-to-date communication about the most important student-related matters

Student Cards

Tamko offers two different membership cards. See below which one is right for you!

UAS STUDENT CARD

With the UAS student card, you get Tamko’s own benefits, Slice discounts, as well as Kela’s meal subsidy, and discounts from VR (train tickets) and Matkahuolto (bus services).

The terms of UAS student card

  1. You are studying a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree or you are exchange student
  2. You’ve registered yourself as a present student in TAMK for the upcoming term or academic year
  3. You become a member and pay the membership fee to Tamko

TAMKO MEMBER CARD

With the Tamko member card, you get Tamko’s own benefits and Slice discounts, but you are not eligible for national benefits such as Kela’s meal subsidy or discounts from VR (train tickets) and Matkahuolto (bus services).

The terms of Tamko membership card

  1. You’re studying for example in Vocational Teacher education, open UAS studies or you are part of education export group and you don’t meet the requirements for receiving the UAS student card.
  2. You’ve registered yourself as a present student in TAMK for the upcoming term or academic year
  3. You become a member and pay the membership fee to Tamko

Your Student Card Goes Wherever You Go

As a Tamko member, you receive both a physical student card and access to two different mobile student cards. Both provide the same student benefits, from discounted meals to train travel and many other discounts.

Physical Student Card

The traditional plastic student card is still cool and highly popular! The same card also functions as a campus access card and a library card for the University community library. Every member automatically receives a plastic student card when joining.

Aaaand it works even when the train’s internet connection doesn’t.

Mobile Student Cards

On the other hand, if you leave your physical card at home or it happens to fall out of your overalls pocket somewhere, your mobile student cards are always with you on your phone. As a Tamko member, you receive access to two mobile student cards:

TUUDO

Tuudo is a study-focused application supported by TAMK. In Tuudo, you can find:

  • Timetables
  • Campus room reservations
  • Restaurant menus
  • Course registrations
  • Library card
  • Meal subsidy card
  • Tamko student card

We recommend downloading Tuudo even if you do not plan to join Tamko, as it contains a lot of useful information to make your studies easier.

SLICE.FI APP

The Slice.fi app is specifically focused on student discounts. You can find thousands of discounts across Finland. Whether you are visiting your hometown or heading to visit other cities you can check local benefits available in that area.

The same app also contains your student card or membership card, allowing you to verify your student status to conductors, cashiers, and service providers.
